Single Case Study of Art Therapy for Slow Child Learners that Experience Emotional Difficulties

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore what slow child learners experience through art therapy and the meaning of their experiences. To this end, 11-year-old boys who are slow child learners residing in A, were selected as the research participants and conducted 16 sessions of art therapy in the counseling room at school and study room once a week for 100 minutes from August 4, 2021, to December 18, 2021. The data was collected through verbatim records for all the sessions, in-depth interviews, and images of work and clinical diary. The collected data was analyzed through repetitive comparative analysis and derived 4 essential themes and 15 sub-themes. The results of this study are as follows. First, the participants expressed a sense of loss about daily life through art therapy. Second, the participants expressed and relieved their anger safely during the art therapy.
Third, the participants gained psychological stability through positive relationships with the supportive art therapist. Fourth, the participants could dream about a hopeful future through art therapy. Based on these study findings, the significance and limitations of this study were discussed.
